Danny Churros is one of the unique gluten-free places in Fukuoka which I really loved. It is located in Canal City Hakata, a mall close to canal (as the name suggests) and in the centre of the city. The mall itself is special in its architecture, as you can see in the picture below, and it features fountain water shows and seasonal events.
Danny Churros is at B1F of the mall and can be easily accessed either by bus or by taking a walk along the canal.
Danny Churros are 100% gluten-free and quite popular with tourist. When I visited them on a Thursday morning, there were already two other smaller tourist groups waiting in front of me. I have never had churros before in my life (I know, I really missed out!) so I don’t have much to compare their taste to, but I found them delicious!
As I went there alone, I ordered a rather classy normal shape of churros with matcha powder on the one and white chocolate powder on the other end. But besides having various different tastes…
…they also offered a variety of cute churro shapes…
…like cats or cat paws.
They even had Cheese churro (hot?) dogs and christmas themed churros! But they only had one flavour for each shape, which is why I chose the longer churro in the other picture above. My favourite though, which I wanted to order next time are the two churros shaped as the Kanji (Japanese writing) of Fukuoka 福岡.
As you can see on the registry, I payed 500 Yen for my double flavoured Churro, which is not much, especially considering that it is gluten-free (I love living in South Korea, but living gluten-free in Japan is probably cheaper and has more different options). Anyway, next time I’m planning to take my husband with me and order custom designed churros, like in the picture above!
If you zoom in, you can see the screenshots on their walls of different orders from some customers and the prices for the designs. Someone ordered churros shaped in Korean Hangeul spelling “Fukuoka” others had star or heart shapes or “Hakata” spelled in churros. So in case you have to drag your friends/partner with you to eat gluten-free churros together, being creative by ordering customized churros and taking fun pictures is probably a great excuse (besides the mall already being worth a visit!).
